What is FlightAware?
What is a FlightFeeder?
A FlightFeeder is a device that listens for radio signals from ADS-B aircraft transponders and decodes them to determine aircraft positions.
FlightAware designs and manufactures these receivers and provides them free of charge to qualified individuals who agree to host them. Aircraft
data received by the FlightFeeder is available to the host by directly accessing the device and is transmitted over the Internet to FlightAware.
FlightAware uses this data to provide real-time flight tracking to the public on our website. By collecting and analyzing the position data we are
able to help airlines and operators improve efficiency and more importantly, promote aviation safety.
What’s involved in hosting a FlightFeeder?
As a FlightFeeder host, you will need to install an antenna in an open location with a clear view of the sky. The antenna needs to connect to an indoor
FlightFeeder and that receiver needs to connect to the Internet and electricity. FlightAware will provide you with the antenna, FlightFeeder
and antenna cable at no cost.
How do I get started?
To volunteer to host a FlightFeeder, submit a request by providing your location via the form below. FlightFeeder requests are evaluated based on a
variety of characteristics, including the proposed location. We will let you know via email if your request is approved. If you are not approved, we
will keep your information on file in case our needs change in the future. If you are not approved, there are still other ways you can participate
in real-time flight tracking, such as by building your own PiAware receiver.
Please note if you plan to install the FlightFeeder at an airport or FBO as we are currently prioritizing these locations.
Why should I host a FlightFeeder?
- Receive a complimentary FlightAware Enterprise Account which includes:
- 8 months of historical flight data.
- Unlimited flight alerts.
- Registration/tail numbers for airline/callsign flights.
- Air traffic control callsigns.
- Full screen maps without ads.
- Access SkyAware, a web-based map showing all aircraft currently being tracked by your FlightFeeder.
