Your donation will give a child whose life has been disrupted by domestic violence the best chance of successfully restarting their education at a new school. Examples of the school items your donation will pay for are:
$50 - a pair of shoes and socks
$150 – school bag with stationery, textbooks, and other school essentials
$250 – primary school uniform including shoes and sports uniform
$450 – high school uniform including shoes and sports uniform.

Why choose us?
Zephyr Education assists one of the most vulnerable groups in our community – children whose lives and schooling have been disrupted by domestic violence. Our goal is to ensure that children who arrive at a shelter will be able to start at their new school, fully equipped, as soon as possible (usually within 48 hours).
We are all unpaid volunteers and so almost every dollar we receive is spent on uniforms and other school essentials to get the children back to school.

We supply shelters and our other clients with school stationery packs for each year level and shoes in a range of sizes to provide to children as soon as they arrive. We replenish their stock on request. We also pay for school uniforms and school resource fees (e.g. for eLearning).

Your donation will provide children whose education has been disrupted by domestic violence with uniforms, textbooks, stationery and everything else they need to get back to school.

Children often arrive at domestic violence shelters without their school uniforms and other school essentials. It’s an unfortunate fact of life that children who stand out from their classmates run a higher risk of being bullied.

Your donation will help them fit in at their new school and boost their self-confidence.

An example from a support worker at a DV shelter!

One of the boys has not been to school for six months as he was bullied and always wearing mismatched socks or dirty clothing. He would become disruptive and go back home.  He started at a new school this year (you helped with shirts for all three boys). The first day he would not attend but by last Friday he was attending all day and so far this week he has not missed a minute – the difference is fitting in, not being the odd one out. He is also proud as punch with his new uniform and school kit.

Feedback about the impact of our work

It is difficult to convey the difference you make to the lives of the women and children who come to our service. Being in refuge is a huge challenge in itself for the children; being away from friends and family is extremely upsetting for them. Starting at a new school is even more challenging, especially if they have to begin their journey in second-hand clothing and without the correct equipment.
Being able to provide them with brand new uniforms and bags and the supplies needed gives them so much confidence to begin their new journey. The relief on the mums’ faces and the huge smiles on their children’s faces say it all!

About Zephyr

Zephyr Education Inc (formerly, Zephyr Foundation) was established by a group of volunteers who got together in 2013 to help children at domestic violence shelters get on with their education by supplying them with everything they need to start at their new school.Shelters contact us when a new family arrives and give us a list of the things each child will need to start at their new school.The items we provide include school bags, uniforms, shoes and socks, and swim packs, as well as textbooks, stationery and equipment specific to each child’s year level.
