If Bentley Motors was a person, one would imagine it to be an old gentleman with an awe-inducing moustache, a monocle and a pocket watch. Dressed in a pin-striped suit - handmade no less - from the finest of materials known to man. He would be the kind who would scoff at an unironed shirt or a spot of spilled tea on the dinner table. If I wasn't too clear with the analogies, Bentley has always stood for exuberance. Cars from the marquee have always focussed on being the epitome of luxury and, more importantly, the epitome of being British.
But what happens when the gentleman trades his tuxedo for a running suit? You get the Bentley Flying Spur W12 S. The S is a teeny tiny reminder that the Brits know how to have a good laugh every now and then. Why is this one so special? Simply because it is the first four-door Bentley to break through the 200mph (322kmph) barrier. For a Flying Spur to have a top whack of 202mph (325kmph) is truly astonishing purely because it is the size of an average house in most places (and probably costs as much too).
Firepower is courtesy a mammoth 6.0-litre W12 engine that makes an astonishing 635PS of power. Simple maths will tell you that is more than a Lamborghini Huracan! Then there's the 820Nm of torque at your disposal which turns petrol intro shards of tyre and exhaust noise. For the record, 0-100kmph comes up in just 4.5 seconds, that places it squarely into sports car territory. Take a good look at the pictures. It is a massive seventeen and a half feet long slab of metal that accelerates quicker than a Porsche 718 Boxster S! And, while most of these sports cars will hit the limiter at around 250kmph, the Bentley will keep pulling all the way up to 325kmph! Egad!
In order to separate it from its stately brethren, the W12 S gets a dose of black on a few exterior parts, that include the wing mirrors, the door handles, the grille and the bumpers. We love the over-the-top 21-inch alloy wheels and the low profile tyres that look like they are painted onto the rims! The sporty bits might have been called out of place on practically every other Bentley, but this one manages to pull it off rather well!
The interiors are hallmark Bentley, drenched in leather, wood and other expensive materials. Bits that make the W12 S special include some monikers on the headrest and the scuff plates and a three-spoke 'Sport Plus' steering wheel with knurled paddle shifters. Of course, like most Bentleys, the interior can be customised to suit the owner's taste. Customisation options also include a sporty satin carbon-fibre trim to replace the wooden panels.
Bentley hasn't bothered sharing prices, but have said deliveries begin by the end of this year. Know any millionaires with a crazy streak?
