Royal Enfield Electric Bike Design Leaked: Reveals Design Details

The patent image of the upcoming Royal Enfield electric bike has been leaked, revealing a bunch of new details. The electric bike will have a retro-modern styling, and as revealed earlier, its internal codename is Electrik01.

The new image also includes the girder fork that was earlier seen in a teaser. The girder fork in this Royal Enfield electric motorcycle is different from a conventional fork: it uses shocks that are positioned between the girder arms and under the triple clamp using linkages. While this suspension doesn’t really have any additional benefit over the conventional fork, it definitely adds a lot of visual character to the bike, and will get people talking about it. This is the first time in almost a century that the girder fork has been used in a Royal Enfield bike, from the factory. Also adding to the retro-appeal of the bike is a rear-end that mimics the hard-tail look. This is most likely done by using a monoshock that’s neatly tucked in behind the bodywork. However, the rider’s seat is mounted directly to the main frame, and the bike doesn’t have a sub-frame as such. 

The main frame encompasses the battery pack and other components, and will most likely be used as a design element of the bike. There’s also two tear-drop shaped panels mimicking a fuel tank. While also serving aesthetic purposes, these could house components like a battery management system, amongst other things. These will also allow the rider to grip on the bike with their thighs. 

The battery pack itself looks quite huge, and has air-cooling fins all around. The battery is mounted above the motor, which will send power to the rear wheel using a belt drive. However, the motor specs have not been revealed yet. 

The electric Royal Enfield will have alloy wheels with disc brakes, a circular headlight unit, with LED lighting most likely, handlebar-mounted turn indicators, and a circular instrument cluster similar to the one the Meteor 350.

Royal Enfield has collaborated with Stark Motorcycle, a Spanish EV manufacturer, who could most likely have a hand in this. RE is also setting up an additional production facility in Cheyyar, Chennai, which is expected to be operational in 2025. It is most likely that this facility will manufacture this and the other future electric bikes from RE. This coincides with the Electrik01’s expected official debut in 2025.
