The NT1100 employs the 1084cc engine from the CRF1100L Africa Twin.
Comes in two trims: Manual transmission and DCT.
Gets bucket loads of features including heated grips, cruise control, electronically adjustable windscreen and ride modes.
Honda has taken the wraps off its new tourer motorcycle, the NT1100, for the European market. It is based on Honda’s popular ADV, the CRF1100L Africa Twin, but focuses more on road-riding rather than off-road stints, evident from its 17-inch alloy wheels with road-biased tyres. With that out of the way, let’s dive into the details.
One look at the NT1100 and it looks straight out of the sketchboard. Up front you get a broad yet sharp fascia equipped with split LED lights and a tall 5-step electronically height-adjustable windscreen with side deflectors. The wide fascia is complemented by equally all-embracing fairings on the sides and a big 20.5-litre fuel tank.
Towards the rear, the NT1100 gets side-mounted panniers as standard. Not only do these add to the practicality of the bike, they also help the NT1100 mask its small and conventional tail section.
Coming to features, the NT1100 has a laundry list’s worth. These include heated grips, cruise control, five riding modes (three preset and two customisable), wheelie control, traction control, USB charging, a 12V socket, and dual-channel ABS, along with a 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster coupled to a small LCD, borrowed from the Africa Twin.
Speaking of things borrowed from the Africa Twin, we come to the engine and the chassis. The NT1100 is powered by the same 1084cc parallel-twin engine putting out 102PS and 104Nm, 1Nm less than the Africa Twin. Also, the NT1100, like the ADV, is offered in two trims: a six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). In addition to the standard kit, the DCT variant gets an extra top box. Consequently, it tips the scale at 248kg, 10kg more than the standard NT1100.
The engine is housed in a semi-double-cradle chassis. This is also borrowed from the Africa Twin, but gets a revised sub-frame to mount the panniers. It is sprung on a 43mm USD fork and a monoshock, both preload-adjustable with 150mm travel, sourced from Showa. Meanwhile, two 310mm discs up front and a 256mm rear disc help slow the bike.
With a seat height of 820mm and ground clearance of 175mm, the NT1100 is somewhat accessible too.
In European markets, the NT1100 costs around Rs 10.5 lakh and rivals the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX and the Suzuki GSX-S1000GT. Currently, there’s no news whether the NT1100 will ever make it to our shores or not.
