Earlier, this piece of tech was exclusive only to the top-spec ZX trim of the hybrid variant of the compact sedan

  • Facelifted Honda City market launch on March 02.
  • ADAS, earlier limited to hybrid variants, will be offered with the petrol model.
  • This tech will be offered with the manual variants as well, unlike most other cars.
  • Sedan to get two entry-level variants - one for petrol and hybrid each.
  • This means entry-level pricing could drop from Rs 11.87 lakh to around Rs 11 lakh.

Honda Cars India will kick start its innings in 2023 with the launch of the facelifted City on March 02. Some dealers are already accepting unofficial bookings for the model across the country. However, the more interesting piece of information we have got our hands on now is that the sedan’s standard petrol engine will also get ADAS as revealed by a spy video.

The Honda City already has ADAS in the country, but is limited to the hybrid model of the sedan. However, with the facelift, this tech will be available with the standard petrol-only version of the sedan. The City’s ADAS suite includes features such as adaptive cruise control, auto high beam assist, lane departure warning and collision avoidance assist.

Another interesting bit is that the City’s ADAS features will be offered with the manual model, unlike most other carmakers, who offer it only with the automatic variant (2023 Harrier and Safari are examples). That said, it remains to be seen if the entire suite will be offered with the City’s manual variants. The sedan could also see a price drop as Honda will be introducing two entry-level (one for petrol and hybrid each) trims to the compact sedan lineup.

The facelifted Honda City will continue with the 121PS 1.5-litre petrol and 126PS 1.5-litre strong-hybrid powertrains, both of which will be updated to meet the more stringent RDE norms. A six-speed manual will be offered with the petrol version, while the CVT will be offered with both engines. The 1.5-litre diesel engine won’t be offered as Honda will be discontinuing it.

The introduction of new base variants in the City range means we expect entry-level pricing to drop from Rs 11.87 lakh to around Rs 11 lakh. It will continue to rival the Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the upcoming 2023 Hyundai Verna.
