An in-depth explanation of the differences between the three Bajaj Chetak variants: 2901, Urbane and Premium

Bajaj Auto has just launched a new Chetak 2901 variant, which is the most affordable one in the lineup. This now makes the Urbane variant the mid-spec one in the lineup, while the Premium is still the top-spec variant. But, what are the differences between all the three variants? The Rs 3,000 premium that the TecPac variant carries for the Chetak 2901 sounds quite reasonable, given that you get features like hill hold, reverse mode and Bluetooth connectivity for it (features that you’ll actually use on a daily basis). So if you think those features will be of use to you, you can make the extra investment. The new Bajaj Chetak 2901 variant gets five colour options: Azure Blue, Ebony Black (MET), Racing Red, Cyber White and Lime Yellow. The Bluetooth connectivity feature is for call and music controls. It rivals the Ampere Nexus EX, Ola S1 X, Ather Rizta S, TVS iQube (2.2kWh) and the Vida V1 Plus.

Interestingly, the Urbane packs a lesser range than the 2901, despite being the more expensive one. Even its top speed in the standard variant is the same as the 2901. And here, the cost for the TecPac has also gone up to Rs 8,000. That is a bit more substantial, so we’d recommend you putting in that extra money only if the extra features really add that much more value. The Bajaj Chetak Urbane is available in four colour options: Matte Coarse Grey, Cyber White, Brooklyn Black and Indigo Metallic. It is the mid-spec variant in Bajaj Chetak’s lineup and it rivals the likes of the Ampere Nexus ST, Ather 450S, TVS iQube (3.4kWh), Ola S1 Air and the Vida V1 Pro.

The Premium variant is the only one where you get a TFT console as standard. The top speed as well as the range is higher than the other two and there’s even a disc brake at the front. It is the top-spec variant in the Bajaj Chetak’s lineup. It is available in three colour options: Brooklyn Black, Indigo Blue and Hazelnut. The Bluetooth connectivity feature is for call alerts, music controls and turn-by-turn navigation. Its rivals are the Ather 450X, TVS iQube ST (3.4kWk) and the Ola S1 Pro. So if you want the top-of-the-line kit and are also willing to spend for it, the Premium variant might make sense for you. 

As you can see from the above sections, different variants of Chetak rival the corresponding variants of electric scooters from the likes of Ola Electric, Ather Energy, TVS and others. The introduction of the more affordable 2901 variant has expanded the Chetak portfolio enough to be able to fight against other EV makers on all fronts. Also, the Chetak is one of the highest-selling electric scooters in the market. So, the 2901 will likely further boost the sales figures. Also, the Chetak lineup is up for a refresh in 2025, as Rajiv Bajaj recently confirmed the arrival of a new scooter based on an all-new platform. So things are surely going to get exciting!
