Tata is ready to retain or rather build on its dominance in India’s EV segment as it has just launched the 2023 Nexon EV facelift with prices starting from Rs 14.74 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelift isn’t a traditional one, and leans more on the lines of a complete makeover (new-gen) as there are a lot of changes right from its design to its powertrain specifications. But before we get to them, here’s a list of the revised prices:

2023 Tata Nexon EV Design

The facelifted Tata Nexon EV sports a sharper design, courtesy the clear inspiration derived from the Curvv SUV concept. Sleek DRLs that run across the bonnet, split LED headlights, closed grille, and wheel air curtains towards the lower side of the bumper define the changes on the facade. Feels more of a generational makeover than a mere facelift.

However, things are rather akin in profile, with a similar body shape. The only real change comes with the redesigned 16-inch alloy wheels (shared with the ICE-powered Nexon), which offer better aerodynamic efficiency than before.

The Nexon EV’s rear embraces the connected light setup, just like at the front, and sports an X-shaped motif via its sleek LEDs. The rear bumper has been redesigned as well, and Tata has neatly integrated and hid the rear wiper within the roof spoiler to give the rear a clean look.

2023 Tata Nexon EV Interior

Step inside the 2023 Nexon EV facelift and you’ll be welcomed to an interior like never before seen in the nameplate. The layout is simple with a flattish dash but is now laden with screens, touch sensitive panels and displays.

The two-spoke steering wheel design is new and so is the theme of the upholstery, which depends on the variant pack selected. The digital Tata logo in the middle of the steering reminds you of the brand you’re in, because you could easily mistake it for something more premium.

The HVAC controls beneath the central AC vents are now touch sensitive, but you still get two physical knobs for the temperature and fan speed controls.

2023 Tata Nexon EV Features

The Nexon EV has always been one to offer a healthy list of features, but with this facelift, the depth of kit on offer is just astonishing. For starters, it boasts the biggest ever infotainment for a Tata: a 12.3-inch touchscreen which even gets an arcade mode to download games or streaming surfaces which can be used while charging the vehicle.

Then there's a new fully digital 10.25-inch driver’s display, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, a 9-speaker JBL sound system with subwoofer, sunroof, and connected car technology. It even boasts vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology and vehicle-to-vehicle capability which turns it into a portable power bank and can also charge other EVs.

The safety kit now boasts six airbags as standard and includes equipment like ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, blind spot monitoring, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

2023 Tata Nexon EV Powertrains

Tata has made slight improvements on this front, thanks to a Gen-2 permanent magnet synchronous AC motor that’s lighter by 20kg and the small aerodynamic improvements made with its design.

The medium range version boasts a 30kWh battery paired to a 129PS motor, while the long range version gets a 40.5kWh battery paired to a 143PS motor. The result is a slight improvement in range (as claimed by ARAI) which is 325km (Medium Range) and 465km (Long Range).

Tata will be opening a few EV-specific dealerships in a phase-wise manner which, as the name suggests, will only be used for its electric vehicles. These changes have upped the appeal of the Nexon EV and it’ll give the Mahindra XUV400 a tougher fight for sure. In fact, it even seems like a better fit against the MG ZS EV, which is a bigger rival.
