Hero Splendor Plus Overview

The Hero Splendor Plus is easily the most popular bike in India. It has topped sales charts year after year ever since it was launched in 1994. While it has largely remained visually the same, Hero has visually tweaked it every now and then to keep it fresh. The Splendor is the best-selling bike in India because of its reliable and frugal engine, simplistic looks that you can’t go wrong with, and the iconic rectangular headlight.

Hero Splendor Plus Key Highlights

Price: The Hero Splendor Plus has 4 variants. The base variant, priced at Rs 75,441, misses out on i3S (start-stop) technology. Next up is the Splendor Plus i3S Drum variant which costs Rs 76,786 and gets the i3S (start-stop tech) and the same paint schemes as the base one. There’s also an i3S Drum Brake Black & Accent variant which gets a glossy, all-black paint scheme and is priced the same as the i3S Drum Brake variant at Rs 76,786. The top Splendor Plus i3S Matt Axis Grey variant is available for Rs 78,286 (all prices ex-showroom) and gets a matte-black paint scheme with a single-piece alloy grab rail.

Design: Despite receiving numerous updates over time, the Splendor Plus retains its classic body design with simple styling and a quarter fairing over a rectangular headlight, a design that has evolved through generations. The side panels maintain a clean and straightforward look, and the rear features a robust chrome luggage rack. The Splendor Xtec variant brings a slightly more modern touch with its offset LED DRL.

Features: The Hero Splendor Plus takes a modest approach towards features. It has halogen lights all around and an analogue instrument cluster with all the basic tell-tale indicators. It just has a combined braking system (CBS), and no ABS, but all variants get alloy wheels with tubeless tyres and self-start. Its biggest talking point is the i3S, or the start-stop technology, that automatically shuts off the engine when the bike idles for some time, and restarts when the clutch lever is pressed. This helps in improving mileage. It has a 5-step preload adjustable rear suspension, and a long, single-piece seat, both of which help make the bike comfortable to ride. Hero has also given the Splendor Plus a side-stand indicator and a five-year/ 70,000km warranty as standard.

Engine: The Splendor Plus is equipped with a single-cylinder, air-cooled, 97.2cc, fuel-injected engine, coupled with a 4-speed gearbox. This powerplant generates 8.02PS at 8000rpm and 8.05Nm at 6000rpm of torque.

Rivals: Competing with the Hero Splendor Plus are models like the Honda Shine 100, TVS Radeon, TVS Sport, Honda CD 110 Dream, and Bajaj CT 110X.

Variants: The Hero Splendor Plus offers distinct variants: the standard Splendor Plus, the Splendor Plus i3S Drum, the Splendor i3S Drum Brake Black & Accent variant and the Splendor Plus i3S Matt Axis Grey.

Hero Splendor Plus Expert Review

The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec, with three decades of heritage, has evolved into one of Hero MotoCorp's most cherished motorcycles. It's been on a journey of continuous improvement, adapting to the changing times. In this digital age, the new Splendor Plus Xtec embraces technology, making it the most feature-rich and fuel-efficient Splendor to date. Let's explore what's to love and what could be better about this iconic motorcycle.

Looks, Feel & Build Quality

The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec maintains its classic design with a touch of modernity. Its timeless appeal continues to resonate with riders across India.

Power & Mileage

Powered by a reliable 97.2cc air-cooled engine, the Splendor Plus Xtec offers a commendable balance of power and efficiency. It delivers 8.02PS of power and 8.05Nm of torque. With a low kerb weight of 112kg, it offers a sprightly performance. Notably, its fuel efficiency is exceptional, providing 83.2kmpl in the city and an impressive 95.8kmpl on the highway. A full tank of fuel can take you over 900km, making it a great choice for daily commuters.

Suspension, Ride Quality & Ease of Riding

This motorcycle excels in handling, effortlessly manoeuvring through city traffic and uneven roads. Its front fork absorbs undulations effectively, providing a comfortable and controlled ride, whether you're riding solo or with a pillion.

Features

The Splendor Plus Xtec embraces the digital age with an all-digital cluster. It includes real-time mileage readout, Bluetooth connectivity for call and SMS alerts, and a convenient USB charging port. These features add a modern touch to this iconic motorcycle, though the USB port's placement could be improved.

Comfort

The upright riding posture and well-padded seat make it perfect for long commutes. The primary drawback is its braking system. While the combined braking system works well, a front disc brake option would have been a valuable addition to enhance stopping power and safety.

Is The Hero Splendor Plus Worth Buying?

The Hero Splendor Plus Xtec is priced at Rs 79,911 (ex-showroom, Delhi). While it offers new features and technology, the price hike compared to base 110cc bikes raises questions about its affordability. Competitors like the TVS Radeon, Honda CD 110 Dream, and Bajaj Platina 110 offer similar features at a more competitive price point.

Lastly, the Hero Splendor Plus Xtec remains a champion among the masses, with its new features being a welcome addition. If you don't mind spending a bit extra for modern features, it's a worthwhile choice. However, those prioritizing practical aspects like disc brakes and ABS might find other options, such as the Bajaj Platina 110, more appealing.
