TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Expert Review
The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V stands out as one of the best 160cc performance-oriented bikes. The naked bike boasts several segment-leading features and offers an impressive performance. It offers excellent value for money and is one of our favourite bikes in this segment.
Looks, Feel & Build Quality
The Apache RTR 160 4V is a naked bike with a classic streetfighter design that looks quite sharp and aggressive. It comes with an LED headlight and daytime running light (DRL) which resemble a pair of fangs, giving the bike a menacing appearance, especially when combined with the tank extensions. At the rear, It gets a sleek tail section with the twin-barrel exhaust adding to the bike's aesthetic appeal. The special edition variant comes with a 'bullpup' exhaust that reduces the bike's weight by 1kg.
Power & Mileage
The Apache RTR 160 4V is powered by a 159.7cc air-/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine and comes with three riding modes: Sport, Urban, and Rain. Each mode affects how the engine performs and its power output. In Sport mode, the bike delivers 17.55PS at 9520 rpm and 14.73Nm at 7250rpm. In Urban and Rain modes, the power output is slightly reduced to 15.64PS at 8600 rpm and 14.14Nm at 7250 rpm. TVS claims that this reduction in performance enhances fuel efficiency. The bike has a real-world tested mileage of 47.61kmpl in the city and 49.80kmpl on the highway, and comes with a 12-litre fuel tank capacity.
The Apache RTR 160 4V surprised us by being over four seconds faster than 0-100kmph than its predecessor. The engine feels more lively than before, extra power kicks in higher up the rev range, best experienced by fully opening the throttle. It remains agile in the city as before. The mid-range performance remains unchanged, requiring more gearbox work for optimal performance.
Suspension, Ride Quality & Ease of Riding
The Apache RTR 160 4V offers sharp and impressive handling. Thanks to its race-inspired chassis that inspires confidence in the rider, it is exceptionally good around the corners. The combination of Showa-tuned monoshock and telescopic fork effectively absorbs bumps and uneven road surfaces, resulting in a pleasant overall ride quality.
Comfort
The Apache RTR 160 4V is a sporty bike that demands a slightly forward-leaned riding posture. Taller riders might find the combination of a low seat height of 790mm and slightly higher footpegs a bit uncomfortable. But it's not a major issue and should be okay for most riders. The padded single-piece seat is quite comfortable for both the rider and the pillion. Moreover, the suspension handles bumps and potholes effectively, making rides over rough roads less stressful.

The TVS Apache RTR 160 4V gets an LED headlight and taillight, with indicators using halogen bulbs.
