The Latest Tata HBX Spy Shots Reveal Its Funky Footwear

• New wheels sport a four-split-spoke dual-tone design, likely 16-inch units.

• It continues to sport heavy camouflage, yet looks similar to the concept.

• Features expected include a floating touchscreen, climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start/stop.

• Likely to be powered by the Tiago’s 86PS/113Nm 1.2-litre petrol engine.

• Rivals could include the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

Tata Motors has been hard at work preparing the upcoming HBX micro-SUV since its concept iteration made its debut at Auto Expo 2020 in February. Production-spec test mules have already been spied multiple times, but the latest set of images could be from a higher-end variant. The micro SUV from Tata Motors is likely to be launched in early 2021. 

While previous spy shots featured wheels lifted straight from the Altroz, the latest images reveal a swankier set of split-four-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels (possibly 16-inchers). They mimic the design of a jet propeller and fill the wheel arches nicely. Other highlights include an SUV-esque upright stance with a boxy design, and a split-headlamp setup with LED DRLs up front to round off the exteriors.

The production-spec cabin shots are yet to surface, but we expect it to remain relatively similar to the concept, with bits like the multi-function steering wheel, instrument cluster and floating touchscreen infotainment system borrowed from the Altroz hatchback. The HBX could also be equipped with features like climate control, cruise control, a Harman sound system and  keyless entry with push-button start. Safety kit may consist of ABS+EBD, dual airbags, and rear parking sensors.

The Tata HBX could be powered by a sole 1.2-litre, naturally petrol engine from the Tiago with similar performance figures at 86PS and 113Nm. A 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox could be the transmissions on offer.  An all-electric iteration utilising the Nexon EV’s Ziptron powertrain could also be on the cards, but there won’t be a diesel engine on offer.  

Tata Motors is expected to launch the HBX around early 2021. It will sit below the Nexon in the carmaker’s lineup. Expect prices to start from Rs 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom).  Once launched, it could go up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.
