Benelli has announced it will unveil its first performance-oriented cruiser, the Benelli 502 C, in India tomorrow. This motorcycle is likely to command a premium of about Rs 20,000 over the Benelli Leoncino 500, which starts from Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom India). The pre-bookings will commence tomorrow, and the launch will take place at the end of this month.

The motorcycle will share the same 500cc BS6-compliant liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with the Leoncino 500 and the Benelli TRK 502 range. Like the two motorcycles, the cruiser will also churn out the same output figures: 47.5PS at 8500rpm and 46Nm at 6000rpm. The engine works in conjunction with a 6-speed transmission linked to a chain drive. What makes it a potent touring machine is that the bike gets a massive 21.5-litre fuel tank, a fairly generous 170mm ground clearance, and an accessible 750mm seat, with laidback ergonomics.

The powertrain nestles inside a trellis frame linked to an inverted front fork, rear monoshock, 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 120-section front and 160-section rear tyres. For optimum braking prowess, Benelli has equipped the 502 C with twin 280mm front petal discs with radial calipers and a 240mm petal disc at the rear, with standard dual-channel ABS.

Benelli has equipped the cruiser with an all-LED lighting system, a TFT instrument cluster with two display modes and adjustable footrests. All in all, the Benelli 502 C seems like a well-rounded cruiser that’s designed to turn heads and munch miles with equal ease. The only other alternative in the middleweight segment is the Kawasaki Vulcan S at the moment. However, the 502 C’s arch nemesis will be the Honda Rebel 500, likely to be launched in the coming months.
