Skoda has increased the Kushaq AT’s accessibility and value proposition by introducing the Onyx Variant with an automatic transmission option at Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The second to base variant has been in the market since 2023, but never had an automatic transmission before. With this new update, the Kushaq now gets the Onyx as an entry level variant for the automatic transmission along with a few other niceties included.

It slots between the base Active and Ambition variants in the lineup and here’s how much it undercuts the latter’s automatic option:

The Onyx AT is Rs 2.35 lakh less than the next up Ambition AT variant.

Exterior Updates

The Skoda Kushaq Onyx edition, like before, now borrows few exterior elements from the Ambition variant like the LED projector headlights along with DRLs, fog lamps with static cornering functionality. The rear section of the car sees an addition of rear windscreen wiper along with washer and defogger.

From the side profile, the Kushaq Onyx gets “Onyx” badging on the B-pillars and 16-inch Tecton wheel covers for the wheels. Thankfully, the side body decals in the Onyx manual, which looked like an afterthought, have been deleted now and the car looks much cleaner.

Interior Updates

The Skoda Kushaq Onyx edition now includes few features found in the higher trims, such as  the two-spoke leatherette steering wheel with chrome scrollbar and multifunction buttons. It also gets  paddle-shifters,  hill hold Control, six airbags and  automatic AC. Few accessories like a door sill scuff-plate and floor mats and cushions with Onyx badging have also been added to further enhance its appeal.

Engine And Transmission

The Skoda Kushaq Onyx edition is confined to just a single 1-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 115 PS and 178 Nm. Along with the option of a 6-speed manual, it has now been introduced with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Kushaq is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform specifically developed for the Indian market, and has scored 5 stars at the Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP) crash test rating.

The Skoda Kushaq rivals other compact SUVs in the segment like the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Astor and VW Taigun. The introduction of the Onyx automatic variant does enhance the Kushaq’s appeal, especially for those who want convenience but are tight on a budget.
