It’s been a long long time (three years to be exact) since we’ve had a Geneva Motor Show (GIMS) take place, and the organisers have given a glimmer of hope. The official dates of the 91st edition of the Swiss show are finally out, and will take place from February 14-19 2023.
As much as this announcement is a great silver lining, this ain’t our first rodeo with the annual motor show, as we’ve already faced cancellations three times already. The first one came in 2020 when the Swiss Federal Council didn't have any event with more than 1,000 people due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The effects of that spilled over to the 2021 edition which due to the financial instability led to the Geneva Motor Show being cancelled for the second time.
The latest cancellation for the 2022 edition had the COVID-19 pandemic continue to rear its ugly head with travel restrictions on exhibitors, visitors, and journalists making it infeasible to run it. Interestingly, the organisers also attributed the global semiconductor shortage playing a part in the third cancellation of the motor show.

While things can still change due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic keeping events in a constant state of flux, the confirmed dates bring some positivity considering the fact that the Beijing Auto Show that was scheduled for April 21-30 was recently postponed indefinitely due to the pandemic.
Sure, Geneva Motor Show 2023 may not be the biggest of motor shows, but it serves as an important platform for carmakers to showcase their latest developments to the public. Also, it’ll be interesting to see how carmakers will present their latest offering considering the slow relaxing of restrictions around the world. Hopefully, the fourth time’s a charm for the Geneva Motor Show.
