The world’s first CNG bike gets a lot of segment first hardware and features. The main highlight is that it gets both CNG and petrol tanks

The much awaited world’s first CNG bike, the Bajaj Freedom 125 has been launched. It has tons of interesting hardware and features. So, here are its top 5 highlights:

CNG And Petrol Tanks

The Bajaj Freedom 125 is a hybrid motorcycle consisting of two tanks: CNG and petrol. The CNG tank has a capacity of 2kg and the petrol tank has a capacity of 2 litres. Both the nozzle for filling up the CNG tank and the fuel filler cap for the petrol tank are placed close to each other on the surface of the fuel tank, generally where the petrol tank is on a petrol-powered bike. The petrol tank is mainly intended to be an auxiliary one for when the bike runs out of CNG.

Engine and Mileage

The Freedom 125 is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 9.5PS and 9.7Nm. It comes paired to a 5-speed gearbox. Bajaj Auto claims that in CNG-only mode, the bike has a mileage of 102km per kg and in petrol-only mode, it has a mileage of 65kmpl. The bike has a combined claimed range of 330km. Such figures promise lower running costs than a petrol-powered bike.

Longest Seat In The Segment

With a seat length of 785mm, the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike gets the longest seat in the segment. The long and flat single-piece seat has been designed in a way to accommodate the CNG cylinder placed horizontally underneath it. The seat is so long that it takes up nearly half of the space where a petrol tank will be in a petrol-powered bike.

Trellis Frame And Linked Monoshock

The CNG bike is the first 125cc commuter bike to get a trellis frame. The frame is exposed from the mid-section to the tail section of the bike, which looks really good in our opinion. The biggest advantage of a trellis frame is that it is pretty lightweight and very strong at the same time.

Bajaj CNG Bike Side Profile

The suspension setup of the bike consists of a telescopic fork with fork covers and a linked monoshock, which makes the Freedom 125 the first bike in the 125cc segment to get a linked monoshock. Compared to a regular monoshock that is connected directly to the frame or the swingarm, a link-type  monoshock setup uses an extended link from the frame and the top part of the monoshock is connected to a pivot point on the frame and the bottom part is connected to the extended link. This setup ensures a comfortable ride quality in all scenarios, whether you are riding at low speeds in the city or at higher speeds on the highway.

Instrument Console And Features

The Bajaj Freedom 125 gets an all-new, negatively-lid LCD instrument console that shows speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, gear position indicator, clock and real time and average mileage readouts with tell tale lights such as neutral gear position indicator and low CNG level alert. The top-end NG04 Disc LED variant gets Bluetooth connectivity for call alerts and phone battery level indicator but misses out on turn-by-turn navigation.
