Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG Bike: Features Explained

The Bajaj Freedom 125 is the world’s first CNG bike and it packs quite a bit of features, from switchability between petrol and CNG to smartphone connectivity and more. Here’s our explainer on each and every feature this bike has to offer and how they work.

Switchable Power Modes

The most interesting feature on the Bajaj Freedom 125 is the seamless switchability between petrol and CNG using a toggle switch.. It’s a welcome addition and will save some time. 

The bike comes with a 2kg CNG tank and a 2-litre petrol tank. The CNG tanks offer a claimed range of 200+ kilometres, whereas the petrol tank offers 130km range, bringing the total range to around 330km. Petrol is supposed to be the auxiliary fuel source  to ensure that riders can travel till the next CNG filling station in case their gas runs out, making it a limp home mode of sorts.

Bajaj claims that the Freedom 125 will be able to cut running costs by half when compared to other petrol powered bikes. But CNG stations aren’t as widespread as petrol pumps, so we can’t say for sure if all riders will be able to take full advantage of this. Console And Its Features

The Bajaj CNG bike comes in 3 variants, the NG04 Disc LED, NG04 Drum LED and the NG04 Drum. The top of the line NG04 Disc LED variant comes with a negatively lit LCD console which shows readouts like speed, time, fuel level, odometer, and trip meter readouts alongside real time information like real-time mileage and distance to empty.

This console also offers smartphone connectivity and related features such as call and SMS alerts. Bajaj has also added in a button on the left hand side switchgear which is likely there to help riders navigate through the console.

USB Charging Port

Another interesting feature on the Bajaj Freedom 125 is the USB charging port which has been placed near the instrument console. This feature is now a standard on most 125cc motorcycles and makes a good addition on the Freedom 125. 

It's important to note that the console and connectivity features are only available on the top end NG04 Disc LED variant, and the other variants miss out on this.

The bike is powered by a 125cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 9.5PS and 9.7Nm. The power figures aren’t impressive for a 125cc bike, but comes down to the fact that CNG isn’t as power dense as petrol and a drop in performance is only natural. 

Freedom 125 starts at Rs 95,000 for the entry-level NG04 Drum variant. The mid-spec NG04 Drum LED variant costs Rs 1,05,000 and the top of the line NG04 Disc LED variant costs Rs 1,10,000. All prices are ex-showroom, Maharashtra.
