The Indian government is contemplating taking legal action against several electric scooter manufacturers who have been found guilty of falsely claiming subsidies under the FAME 2 scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles). This comes just over a month after revising the FAME 2 subsidies. Reports suggest that the potential measures being considered include barring these companies from receiving future government subsidies and denying them benefits on vehicles sold in the past 15 months.
According to the below-linked Economic Times article, the government has already sent notices to seven companies, namely Hero Electric, Okinawa Autotech, Ampere, Revolt Motors, Benling India, Lohia Auto and AMO Mobility for them to return a total of approximately Rs 500 crore. This is due to their violation of local sourcing regulations which are necessary to claim incentives under the FAME 2 scheme.
