Ladies and gentlemen, meet Kia’s latest product, the EV3. It’s the smallest electric SUV to be made out of the Korean marque’s E-GMP EV platform. And yes, one can expect it to come to our shores, considering that Kia said it will arrive in Asian markets in 2025. So without further ado, let’s get started.
First things first, the EV3, which relies on Kia’s ‘Opposite United’ design language, is one good looking product. Up front, the blanked-off grille and vertically stacked LED headlights with an inverted ‘L’ DRLs oozes mini EV9 vibes. Adding a dash of beef to the fascia is the chunky skid plate that makes it looks rugged.
The side profile looks chunky with its large, flared, squared-out wheel arches, nicely filled by large and funky alloys. Keen-eyed viewers will also notice that the door handles are mounted on the C-pillar, giving it a nice three-door-car-like vibe. The pillars also have a gloss black trim, giving the roof a floating effect.
Moving on to the rear, once again, the influence from the EV9 can be seen, with its sleek inverted L-shaped tail lamps. The rear bumper with a chunky skid plate round off the overall design.
Things don’t disappoint on the inside as the EV3’s cabin is a nice place to spend time in. Let’s start with the display first. Usually, Kia cars come packing dual 12.3-inch integrated screens for the infotainment and digital driver’s display. But up here, it gets a massive 30-inch wide screen, split by a graphic for the instrumentation and infotainment, both running on a new user interface with plenty of apps to keep you entertained.
Sadly, you’ll have to rely on touch controls to operate the infotainment system, though Kia has cleverly integrated the volume and power knob for it between the central AC vents. Speaking of which, thankfully, there are physical knobs for climate control. Then there’s the steering wheel, which is a two-spoke unit with the off-centre “Kia” logo, which looks cool.
The cabin is draped majorly in black and white, with splashes of orange in the centre console storage. Clearly, the designers have been given a free hand here and as a result, the car looks so characterful in these images. Lastly, the cabin is built out of recycled plastics from older Kia cars. Talk about sustainability!
In terms of features, the EV3, just like any Kia, is loaded to the brim with kit. Highlights include the aforementioned screen, connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, a single-pane sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system and digital key (where you can unlock the car using your smartphone).
Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and most importantly, Level-2 ADAS.
The Kia EV3 comes with two battery pack options: a 58.3kWh (for the Standard variant) and a 81.4kWh (for the Long Range variant). As for now, you get just one electric motor option, putting out 204 PS and 283 Nm with both the battery packs. Put your foot down and the EV3 can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 7.5 seconds before maxing out at 170 kmph. Kia says the EV3 can do around 600km in the WLTP cycle.
Of course, the Kia EV3 supports fast charging capabilities, juicing up from 10-80 percent in just 31 minutes (charging speed not revealed). And being a Kia, it also comes with Vehicle 2 Load (V2L), allowing you to power appliances using the car’s battery pack.
Kia said it will be bringing the EV3 to Asian markets in 2025, so we expect it to be offered in India around that time. If locally assembled, it is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with the BYD Atto 3 and serving as a more premium alternative to the MG ZS EV and upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
