Remember, it’s the general contractor’s responsibility to ensure that independent contractors or subcontractors are adequately insured. Otherwise, the general contractor may be liable for unpaid premium and penalties for uninsured contractors. To make sure that doesn’t happen, always request a copy of each contractor’s WSI Certificate of Payment or Verification of Nonemployment.
