Gigondas is one of the most stunning wine appellations in Rhône Valley, located in south-eastern France.
The name of the Gigondas wine appellation is derived from Roman roots, and in Latin it means pleasure. The town was founded as a recreational site for the soldiers from the Roman Empire's Second Legion. This finding indicates that wine was already grown at this time. The wines from this region have been around a long time and were even awarded a medal at the Parisian agricultural fair in 1894.
This part of the world has some genuinely world-class terroirs for wine. The different soil in this region and the year-round respite from low-altitude climates will support grapes to produce wines with high levels of minerality. Growers are obsessed with diurnal temperature variation, and how it impacts the structure of our fruit. The many benefits they gain from their product are worth the time and effort spent on these changes.
Grenache is the star red grape used in this wine, accounting for at least 70-80% of the total grapes used. Syrah and Mourvedre are playing supporting roles in a love affair that is on the wane. Gigondas is a type of grape that comes from the Côtes du Rhône region spanning France. The variety typically has around 10% Carignan in it. This taste is distinct and often described as earthy, green, and velvet-textured with notes of blackberry jam. Delicious rosé wine is a favorite drink during the summer months.
French stew is one of the best dishes that you can make and it's very easy to do. It's also a dish that requires little effort as all you need are high-quality ingredients and ideas about a recipe. In the past, before using machines to prepare it, navarin was prepared with the cheapest cuts of mutton from sheep that were only kept for their wool. The meat needed a long cooking time- sometimes up to 6 hours total - just so it could be tender and delicious. Today, "Navarin" is considered one of those French classics that turn a cheap cut of sheep into something unique and special. They are known specifically for their signature flavour that is rich, robust, and earthy. This dish is very suitable for Gigondas wine.
Steak au poivre is a popular French dish consisting of a beef steak that is coated in crushed peppercorns and fried. It typically made with some sort of wine or fruity red sauce, Swiss cheese, and either freshly cut green onions or sliced fresh white mushrooms. The steak is served in the very pan in which it was cooked. The dish usually accompanies potatoes and a salad. This dish pairs friendly with Gigondas wine.
