Learning for quality health services
Learning is critical to quality of care. The WHO Global Learning Laboratory (GLL) for Quality aims to understand how to improve quality of care, paying close attention to actions required to achieve desired health service improvement. The GLL uses various mechanisms to encourage learning, linking the experiences, expertise, and wisdom of people around the world on important issues relating to quality health services.
The GLL provides a safe space to share knowledge, experiences and ideas; to challenge ideas and approaches; and to spark new thinking to enhance quality of care.
The GLL is organized around three areas of focus, grounded by learning pods or communities to accelerate learning on quality informed by local action.
First, quality policy and strategy, which enables the consideration of how to drive quality across all levels of the health system through national direction.
Second, some specific technical areas – water, sanitation and hygiene, and infection prevention and control; and HIV for example, which have critical linkages to quality of care.
Third, the role of compassion, acknowledging the human interactions that drive quality of care.
