We regularly survey Which? members to find out more about the showers that they own.

This feedback, combined with the results of our intensive lab tests, means that we're well placed to recommend the brands that you should choose when buying a new shower.

While the best electric showers are easy to install and produce a generous jet of piping-hot water, buying a dud can leave you cursing in frustration. Our tests have uncovered plenty of electric showers that become freezing cold if anyone else use a tap nearby, while others produce such a meagre trickle that you’ll struggle to get the shampoo out of your hair.

In this guide, we compare three major electric shower brands – Mira, Triton and Aqualisa. If you're more interested in a different type of shower, read our guides on the best power shower brands and the best mixer shower brands.

And if you just want the best electric shower for your budget, head to our in-depth electric shower reviews to find out which models we recommend.

Electric shower brands rated

In June and July 2023, we surveyed 2,642 Which? members and asked them about showers they had bought within the last five years.

The table below shows each brand's customer score plus star ratings for important factors, such as build quality and temperature stability – all based on feedback from real customers.

However, some brands that were rated had too small of a sample to be included.

Only logged-in Which? members can see which brands came out on top in the table below. If you're not yet a member, join Which? to get instant access.

Mira electric showers

Mira makes a huge number of electric showers, including thermostatic models that are designed to maintain a steady temperature even if someone else uses the water supply at the same time.

Prices start at around £109 for the Mira Sprint Multi-Fit, rising to more than £450 for the stylish Escape and Galena showers. Electric showers with thermostatic variants will cost more, as will higher powered or dual-head models.

Mira claims the Clearscale technology used in all its showers will cut limescale build-up by up to half. Several models also have phased shutdown – where cold water runs for a few moments after you've switched the shower off, to ensure there's no hot water in the system when the next person turns it on. Running cold water through the system also helps to reduce limescale.

Triton electric showers

Triton offers an extensive selection of electric showers, including its stylish Amore range with touch-sensitive controls, and the easy-to-install T80 range. Prices start from £70, rising to £580 for the more feature-rich models.

If you live in an area with low water pressure, Triton produces electric showers with their own pumps, helping to boost the water flow. There are also thermostatic models that regulate the temperature, reducing the impact should anyone else use the water supply at the same time.

Triton makes multiple versions of each model, which differ according to how powerful they are. In general, the higher the wattage, the more water it can heat and push through the shower head in one go. Triton electric showers range from 7.5kW to 10.5kW – you’ll get more hot water to wash away the soap suds from a 10.5kW shower, compared with a 7.5kW one.

Aqualisa electric showers

Aqualisa makes multiple versions of each model, which differ according to how powerful they are. These include the stylish Lumi and the eMotion, which takes a modern approach with a digital display.

Prices start from £214 with the eMerge and then rise to around £360 for the Lumi.
