This model comes packed with innovative features including a 'Slim Fluffy' soft roller floorhead, which has a green laser diode to illuminate the hidden dust in your home, and dust sensors that record how much dust you suck up (and categorise it by size into a colourful bar chart on the digital display).
Two other floorheads – the 'High Torque' cleaner head and mini turbo tool – feature anti-tangle technology, which is designed to prevent the brush bars getting clogged up with hair.

Like many Dyson models, this one comes with several eye-catching features. There’s a laser beam on the illuminated cleaner head to highlight tiny dust particles on hard floors, and a digital screen that displays the number of particles that've been hoovered up. It also shows you the three power modes (auto, eco and boost), the battery life, and sends maintenance alerts.
This model also comes with a hair tool for picking up animal fur and long hair, a crevice tool for cleaning narrow gaps and other nooks and crannies, a wand clip, a low reach adapter, a combination tool and a charging station.

This cordless handstick vacuum cleaner comes with a Jet Dual Brush, designed to clean both carpets and hard floors, and an all-in-one clean station that automatically empties the dustbin while charging the vacuum.
Other accessories include an upholstery nozzle, crevice tool, furniture brush, mini turbo brush, accessory cradle, two additional dust bags and an angle tool. You can also buy a wet floor cleaning head attachment separately.

This is the first artificial intelligence (AI) cordless vacuum from Samsung. According to the manufacturer, AI mode automatically detects the floor type and controls the suction power and brush speed accordingly.
It comes with a cleaning station – a storage accessory with a charging unit and a self-emptying function – and has an LED display, plus a telescopic shaft that can be adjusted to suit the height of the person using it. This model comes with two choices of floorheads – a slim LED Brush+, which can be used with AI mode, and an active dual brush for carpets and hard floors.

This cordless Shark vacuum cleaner is aimed at pet owners. It’s equipped with Anti Hair Wrap Plus, designed to remove long, short and pet hair from the brush-roll as you clean. It also comes with Clean Sense IQ, which automatically senses the invisible dirt and adjusts cleaning power, according to Shark.
An illuminated indicator in the floor head shows the suction level, lighting up as the suction increases and automatically decreasing when the debris is cleared. As with most of the brand’s cordless models, it comes with an LED light in the floor head to help illuminate small particles of dust and pet hair. It also has an LED screen, which displays battery status and suction level.
In the box you’ll find a crevice tool, multi-surface tool, pet tool, accessory bag, lithium-Ion battery and a charger.

The Shark IZ300UKT cordless vacuum cleaner is specifically designed for homes with pets. Its motorised DuoClean floor head is enhanced with a PowerFins brush-roll, which – according to Shark – is engineered to pick up more hair. It charges relatively quickly, taking just under three hours for a full battery that lasts 47 minutes.
The LED display shows battery life, suction levels and floor-type options, and its controls let you choose between eco, deep clean and boost power modes. In the box you'll find a crevice tool, multi-surface tool, pet tool, accessory bag, Lithium-Ion battery, charger, instruction booklet and quick-start guide.

This corded vacuum cleaner from Shark looks a lot like its more expensive cousin, the NV702UKT, but the models have distinct floor heads. Like most Shark models, this vacuum cleaner can be used in a detachable handheld mode, which is handy for cleaning stairs and tall surfaces.
Its 8.4-metre plug socket to floor head reach is about average, but could leave you short in some scenarios – some models have power cords of up to 12 metres.
It comes with a crevice nozzle, upholstery nozzle, furniture brush and a mini-turbo tool for pet hair.

* Average price in the past six months: £345.85. Cheapest price in the past six months: £279
We like: Wide reach
We don't like: Heavy
This corded cylinder vacuum cleaner is bagless, so dust is collected in a container, rather than in disposable bags. It has a decent 3-litre capacity, so you shouldn’t have to empty the container too frequently, which is a good job, as the process is messy.
Alongside the universal floorhead, it comes with a dedicated upholstery nozzle, plus crevice and flexible gap attachments which are useful for reaching tight nooks and crannies. Despite being heavy, it's a reasonably manoeuvrable vacuum.

Andrew Laughlin, Which? vacuum cleaner expert, says:
With some vacuums almost perennially on 'special offer', it can be hard to know which deals are genuine money savers.
However, if you stick to the below golden rules, you'll always get the best value in your next purchase.
Some models come with impressive-sounding features. Think Flexology (a flexible cleaning tube), or Lift-Away (a removable handheld unit), or Vax's QuickClean (also a removable unit).
However, while useful, some of them aren't unique. You'll find similar features across many other brands, just with more conventional names.
So don't rush into buying a vacuum because of its features. There could be cheaper options with the same capabilities.
Models in the same range (eg the Samsung Jet range) usually have the same core machine – the only difference is the accessories and supplied floor heads.
An entry-level model typically costs about £100 less than a premium model, so you could save money if you're prepared to sacrifice some accessories. It's also worth remembering that having multiple accessories can be more of a hindrance than a help, especially when storing them, which is another reason not to splash out on a model with expensive extras unless you're sure you'll need them.
Many vacs have a basic package and a more expensive pet variant, which comes with a mini-tool for cleaning up after your furry friends.
In some circumstances, you'd be better off buying the basic model and the pet tool separately.
However, always check the prices of variants, as you might find the pet version on offer for less than the basic model.
If a deal seems too good to be true, you can use price comparison sites such as PriceRunner and PriceSpy to check historical price data. It's worth doing a quick Google search too, as some retailers' price feeds aren't picked up by these sites.
The data should reveal how regularly a vacuum goes on sale (if it's on 'special offer' for most of the year, the offer isn't all that special) and whether the 'before' price is accurate.
If you have your eyes set on a certain model but can't find a good deal, don't worry. There are also plenty more fish in the sea – including cheaper options from alternative brands.
Take a look at our vacuum cleaner reviews and cordless vacuum cleaner reviews and filter by 'Great Value' to find the options that perform almost as well as a Best Buy, but cost a little less.
Also see our top recommendations of the best cordless vacuums and best corded vacuums to discover the top performers.
Some retailers will offer to recycle your old vacuum cleaner, but they usually charge a fee for doing so. Our guide on how to recycle electrical items will help you find out your options.
Vacuum deals are available all year round, so if you're after a particular model or brand, you need to know where to look. Read our independent vacuum cleaner reviews or cordless vacuum reviews to ensure you get the best deal.
Based on historical pricing data, we think these prices represent genuinely good savings on some of Dyson's most popular cordless models:
We've noticed that Dyson prices can rise in the months before big sales events such as Black Friday.
Based on historical data, we think these prices represent genuinely good savings on some of Shark's most popular models:
Also keep in mind that cordless Sharks are sold with one, two or sometimes even three batteries.
If you opt for a package with extra batteries, you can prolong your vacuum's running time and won't have to worry about buying a new battery if one eventually stops working.
You can buy spare batteries from the Shark website for around £70, so the deal only makes sense if the package is a similar price to the single-battery model.
If you live in a smaller property, you probably don't need extra batteries, as a single charge will last long enough to vacuum your home in one go. Any battery faults should be covered by the manufacturer's guarantee for the first two years.
If you're looking to replace your old Samsung with a new model, don't forget to check the Samsung website for trade-in deals for your old appliance. They'll take your old vacuum, price it and then you'll be able to put the money towards a new model.
We've noticed that prices can rise in the months before big sales events such as Black Friday, Christmas sales or Cyber Monday, creating the illusion of huge savings on the day. Always check PriceRunner or PriceSpy to compare historical prices to find out of the model you're after is actually being sold at a low price.
