Why you can trust our double oven reviews

Unlike many other review websites, we purchase every double oven that we test. As a result, you can have complete trust in our verdict, including Best Buy and Great Value recommendations.

In our test lab, we conduct dozens of checks on double ovens, evaluating key core features like temperature accuracy and ease of use. Each rating can involve over 20 individual tests. A double oven needs to score at least 74% to be deemed a Which? Best Buy.

Our double oven tests reveal:

  • Whether or not heat spreads evenly throughout the oven – we test ovens by baking shortbread to check heat distribution, with the color revealing how evenly heat spreads across the tray. The best ovens brown the shortbread evenly, while the worst leave the middle undercooked and corners burnt.
  • How quickly the oven heats up – our experts measure each oven's heat-up time at high and low settings: 180°C and 200°C for conventional ovens, and 150°C and 180°C for fan-assisted models. The best ovens heat to 180°C in under five minutes, while the slowest take nearly three times longer.
  • How easy it is to use the oven – in our lab, testers apply cooking grime, bake it on and then use any self-clean functions, like pyrolytic cleaning, to evaluate results. They also clean each oven manually to see which requires the least effort to maintain.

Our in-depth reviews will help you to choose the perfect double oven for your needs, whatever your budget.

What does 'double oven' mean?

Double ovens have one large oven and a separate cavity for a second oven and grill, whereas single ovens have the oven and the grill in the same cavity.

With double ovens, you can use the oven and the grill at the same time, which can be handy if you’re a keen cook or regularly cater for a crowd.

If you’re short on space, head over to our guide to the best single ovens to find a model that will cook efficiently and evenly across both ovens.

Under-counted double oven

Types of double oven

Double ovens come in two sizes. Full height double ovens measure around 60cm wide and 90cm high. Built-under double ovens measure around 60cm wide and 70cm high.

  • Full-height or full-sized double ovens are usually positioned at eye level, so you can keep a watch on what’s cooking and get food in and out easier. They are large and will not fit under a kitchen counter, so you can only opt for one if you have the space for a full height column.
  • Built-under double ovens are designed to fit in beneath your kitchen work surface, so are better for kitchens with limited space. The individual ovens will typically be smaller than one single oven so you’ll get less cooking room in each oven. You may not be able to fit something as large as a turkey in either, so it's worth making sure that it will definitely be big enough for your needs. There are fewer built-under models to choose from.

How much do I need to pay for a double oven?

You can buy a double oven from around £250 to upwards of £1,500, but you don’t need to pay over the odds for a decent model. We’ve found a few Best Buy double ovens that cost under £400.for
