Our pick: Cosori CAF-L501

*Cheapest price in the past six months £60

Cosori CAF-L501 air fryer

We like The eight cooking programs, reheat and keep-warm functions

We don't like It doesn't have a viewing window

This basket-type model from Cosori weighs around 4.5kg and has a 1.2kg capacity, which is generous for a single air fryer.

Besides its eight cooking modes, it also has an adjustable thermostat, a timer and an audio signal that indicates the end of a cycle. The digital touch display allows you to control the programs, and includes a time and temperature display, program status indicator and warning display.

It measures 31 x 27 x 38cm (HxWxD) and comes with a two-year warranty.

Morphy Richards Health Fryer 480003

*Cheapest price in the past six months £22

Morphy Richards Health Fryer 480003

We like It's particularly quiet

We don't like It's fairly slow to heat up

This Morphy Richards basket-type air fryer has a three-litre capacity that holds three to four portions, or 500g of chips. It can fry, bake, roast and grill using very little oil.

Manual dials allow you to set the temperature from 80°C to 200°C and the timer up to 30 minutes.

Although it doesn't have built-in cord storage like many air fryers, the cord is detachable and can be packed into the appliance, which could save you vital cupboard space.

Tefal Easy Fry Dual Air Fryer & Grill EY905D

*Cheapest price in the past six months £130

Tefal Easy Fry Dual Air Fryer & Grill EY905D

We like It's quiet

We don't like It’s very large and bulky

Unlike many other air fryers that are made from plastic, the outside of this Tefal model is covered in stainless steel.

It also has two different-sized drawers, which could be handy if you’re cooking a whole chicken but also want sides such as chips or vegetables in the other drawer.

The digital display allows you to switch between six auto programs: fries, chicken, vegetables, fish, dessert and dehydrate. If you’re not a fan of those, you can adjust the temperature manually.

This model is currently being reduced by Tefal to £150, a claimed £50 reduction. If you sign-up to Tefal's newsletter, you can save an additional 15%. Compare prices at other retailers below.

Ninja Foodi Max AG551UK

*Cheapest price in the past six months £139

Ninja Foodi MAX AG551UK

We like It's easy to use

We don't like It's heavy

The Foodi Max has six cooking functions: air fry, bake, roast, reheat, dehydrate, and grill.

The probe lets the Foodi Max monitor the temperature of your food so it can adjust cooking time and optimise the process.

The touchscreen control panel also sits at the base of the machine and when it’s powered on, the buttons and menus illuminate.

This isn't the cheapest we've seen this model, but if you can't wait to buy it, a few retailers are offering better prices than others at the moment.

Instant Vortex ClearCook 140-4101-01-UK

*Cheapest price in the lpast six months £79

Instant Vortex ClearCook 140-4101-01-UK

We like It's very versatile

We don't like: The small usable capacity

This oven-type air fryer from Instant has a large viewing window, while the control panel features individual buttons for each of the preset programs, and a knob to manually set up the temperature and cooking time.

It weighs 7.4kg, which is on the heavy side.

Instead of a basket, it comes with cook trays, which can be stacked in the fryer, to allow you to cook different foods at the same time. A rotisserie to rotate a chicken, a rotisserie holder and a drip tray come provided.

Best multi-cooker deals for September 2024

Ninja OP450UK

*Cheapest price in the past six months £200

Ninja OP450UK multi cooker

We like It's easy to program and use

We don't like There's no viewing window

This 7.5-litre multi-cooker can cook enough for around six people. It has seven cooking modes and comes with an extra lid for pressure cooking.

It weighs 9.96kg, which is particularly heavy.

There's a basket for air frying and a rack with two tiers for cooking two different things at once.

How to spot a good deal on an air fryer

Fran Roberts-Thornton, Which? small-appliances expert, says:

Fran Roberts-Thornton, Which? small appliances expert
  • Air fryer prices usually drop between 20% and 50% when they're on sale. If the appliance is discounted by 50% or more, make sure the original price you're seeing hasn't been overstated to give you the impression of a bigger saving. Compare current prices to our 'cheapest price in the past six months' before you buy.
  • When it comes to multi cookers, don't be upsold on features and settings you're not going to use. Multi cookers are usually on the expensive side, but premium models with extravagant-sounding features can cost £300 or more. If you don't want to spend that much, think about which cooking modes you're actually going to use and avoid overpaying.
  • Retailers tend to raise their prices leading up to Black Friday, Boxing Day or other shopping events, so chances are that the model you have your eye on will drop in price later down the line. Use price comparison sites such as PriceRunner and PriceSpy to check historical price data, and do a quick Google search as some retailers' price feeds aren't picked up by these sites. Which? reviews also carry a selection of retailer prices to help you compare.

How to recycle your old kitchen appliances

If you're looking to replace an ageing air fryer by shopping in the sales, make sure you dispose of your old one in the correct way.

There are plenty of ways you can offload your unwanted appliances. One option is kerbside collection for small electrical items – in many cases, your local council will collect smaller items such as toasters and kettles. Alternatively, you can drop items at a local recycling centre or hand them over to retailers that have their own recycling schemes.

For more details on how to get rid of your unused gadgets, consult our guide on how to recycle electrical items.
