What does NFU Mutual car insurance offer?

NFU Mutual offers car insurance, home insurance and landlord insurance.

While the car insurance policy offered by NFU Mutual is available to the general public, it doesn't cover all risk profiles and postcodes (particularly in major cities).

NFU Mutual says it prioritises the personal touch: it doesn't sell policies online, but you can buy over the phone or visit one of its 280 local branches, known as 'agencies'.

Its policy is underwritten by NFU Mutual. It will insure drivers between 17 and 80 years old.

How good is NFU Mutual's car insurance policy?

NFU Mutual is a Which? Recommended Provider of car insurance, with its policy scoring 76%. This places it fourth out of the 61 policies we analysed this year – and makes it one of our 10 Best Buys.

Its policy is the only one we've rated that doesn't charge interest or fees for paying monthly. Motor legal protection is included as standard.  Its misfuelling cover - which you can claim on if you've poured the wrong type of fuel into the tank - will pay for costs of draining the fuel and engine damage. Many policies will only pay for one or the other.

Unfortunately, NFU Mutual's policy doesn't cover lost keys and its courtesy car period is only 14 days if your car is damaged beyond repair or stolen. Some policies will provide a temporary replacement for up to a month.

Breakdown cover part of the package

NFU Mutual's car insurance includes Mutual Assist breakdown cover, provided by the RAC, as standard.
