See how this compares with the best car insurance.
With an underwhelming 57%, Axa's standard policy fared below average (64%) in our analysis.
We liked that it's one of the few policies to provide a lifetime guarantee on repairs it arranges. We were also impressed that it guarantees the availability of a courtesy car during repairs, although this is an optional add-on.
However, it underperformed in numerous other areas of our analysis. These included no courtesy car cover if your vehicle is written off and a lack of cover for damaged, lost or stolen keys. Unlike with some policies, your no-claims discount will be dented if you claim because your car is vandalised.
Out of the 61 policies we examined, around half counted your mobile phone as a covered personal possession, including Axa's standard policy.
The cover – with a maximum benefit limit of £150 per claim – also contributes towards the cost of laptops and tablets damaged in or stolen from your car.
Axa's pricier alternative policy, Axa Plus, did much better in our analysis and is a Best Buy. It ranked sixth out of 61 policies we compared, with a score of 74%. Axa Plus has higher cover limits and lower excesses in various areas compared with Axa's standard policy.
Its perks include a courtesy car if your car is damaged or stolen, misfuelling cover, and cover for overnight accommodation and travel expenses (up to £300) if you're stranded following an accident.
