Dodge Don't Buy products with our lab tests

Which? expert testing washing machines

Regardless of how much money you're spending, you'll obviously want a product that's safe, reliable and easy to use.

Unfortunately, a high price tag doesn't always guarantee you a Which? Best Buy – our experts continue to uncover expensive products that perform extremely poorly after going hands-on. Our recent Don't Buy discoveries include:

  • A barbecue that flares up when ignited, making it hard to control and likely to burn your food to a crisp.
  • A dishwasher let down by filters that get blocked far too easily, forcing you to carry out maintenance once or twice a week.
  • A terrible toaster that runs so poorly you'll struggle to get your toast how you like it.

With a Which? membership, you can unlock every one of our product reviews and filter the results by 'Best Buys only'. That way, you'll have instant access to top products that suit your budget perfectly. You'll also see a full score breakdown, showing where the product truly excels.

New parents can benefit greatly from a Which? subscription. We're constantly testing child car seats, pushchairs, baby monitors and more to keep your little one safe and sound.

Knowing which products are Don't Buys will also keep you protected while you shop the sales. After all, there's not much point in buying a flawed product that can be a pain to use, even if it's heavily discounted for Black Friday or an in-store promotion.

The Which? app: thousands of Best Buys in your pocket

By downloading the free Which? reviews app (available for members on Digital or Full Access subscriptions), you can explore our unlocked product reviews from your phone or tablet.

If you're shopping in-store and see a product you like the look of, search for it on the Which? app and see how it fared in our lab tests before you part with your money. You can also create a shortlist of models and compare test scores and specs side-by-side.

The Which? app is crammed with useful features, with highlights including:

  • Expert reviews in the palm of your hand – every review we publish to our website is also available on the Which? app.
  • Bookmark products – a quick tap of the heart icon on any product review will add it to your Saved menu, helping you create a shortlist on the go.
  • Try our filters – instant access to our product filters means you can sort reviewed products by price, or by key specs – a 4K TV from Samsung, for example.
  • Explore digital editions of Which? magazines – flick through our latest long-read articles and investigations, or turn back time and read previous editions. Note that the magazines available within the app will vary based on your membership.

Buy better for the planet with an Eco Buy

Eco Buy label

Our Which? Eco Buy recommendations help you make more eco-conscious buying decisions.

If you spot the green Eco Buy label below while browsing our expert reviews, you'll know the product you're looking at has a low environmental impact while still performing well.

To earn our Eco Buy recommendation, a product must achieve an overall test score of 60% or higher. Plus, it needs to come from a brand whose products, according to our large-scale surveys, aren't likely to develop faults or break down quickly.

Our lab tests have uncovered various Eco Buys including:

  • A spacious fridge freezer that uses energy so sparingly that running costs are kept low.
  • An impressive built-in oven that's cheap to run, making it a nailed-on Eco Buy.
  • A brilliant printer that earns an Eco Buy title thanks to its economical ink system.

We use slightly different criteria for our Eco Buy recommendations based on the type of product. For example, when we test laundry detergents, our experts assess the ingredients used, the packaging it comes in and how transparent manufacturers are prepared to be.
