Washing machine deals

Every now and then you might catch a premium washing machine discounted to a fantastic price. But it can be tricky to know if a discount is the 'real deal'.

That's why every month we scour the internet to find you the best washing machines currently on offer, with real savings.

For our top picks, head to the best washing machine deals.

How much should you pay for a washing machine?

Even the cheapest washing machine will cost at least £200, which isn't exactly nothing. If you're paying that much, it's worth spending the extra £70 to £100, if you can, to make sure it's a decent model that you won't get frustrated with immediately.

That's why we put each machine we review through at least a month's worth of rigorous testing to find out how well they tackle tough stains, how thoroughly they rinse clothes to remove detergent and how good they are at cleaning clothes on the most commonly used programs. We even check how noisy they are, and how efficient they are at using water and energy.

Choosing efficient appliances can help keep running costs to a minimum. Washing machine running costs vary enormously, from lower than £30 – the cheapest we've tested – to more than £90. Check out our pick of the best energy-efficient washing machines.

Where to buy a cheap washing machine

There are many retailers who offer cheap washing machines. To help you decide who to buy from, we've picked some of the most searched-for retailers who have a wide range of washing machines for under £400.

  • Amazon has hundreds of cheap washing machines from brands like Haier, Hisense, Samsung, Zanussi, and more. You'll even find some available for under £100, but these are typically smaller, portable models that we wouldn't necessarily recommend getting. You'll find more conventional washing machines from popular brands available starting from £250. If you're a Prime member, you'll get free two-day shipping on several washing machines.
  • AO offers several washing machines for under £400. You can expect to get a model from a well known brand like Indesit, Hotpoint, Candy, or Hisense from just over £200. Shipping starts from £20, with next-day options typically costing £35.
  • Currys stocks washers from brands like Indesit, Beko, Samsung, Zanussi, and their own-brand Logik. The cheapest models start from just under £200, and there are plenty of cheap washing machines to choose from. Delivery starts from £30, and you'll need to pay more if you want it to arrive at a more specific time.

Should you buy a cheap washing machine?

It's worth bearing in mind that, if you're going for a cheap washing machine, you should be prepared for fewer functions and programs. You're also unlikely to find the biggest drum sizes in cheap machines, so you may need to pay more if you've got a big family or need to wash large loads.

Our rigorous lab tests have revealed many cheap machines that are very poor. Make sure you avoid these by checking out the Don't Buy washing machines.
