Best kitchen cleaning sprays
The best kitchen cleaners can cut through tough grease and grime in no time. Whether you're a careful cook or your surfaces sometimes look like a Jackson Pollock artwork, stains and soils accumulate with every plate.
We've tested products from well-known kitchen cleaner brands such as Flash, Method, Cif, Dettol and more, as well as supermarket brands, to see how well they tackle tough marks including grease, curry sauce stains and dried-on starchy water.
We found two standout Best Buys that removed burnt-on mess and cut through grease with ease. We also thought two sprays for under £1 did a decent job of cleaning around your hob. There were a few Don't Buys too, so you should avoid these if you want your kitchen to sparkle.

How we test kitchen cleaning sprays
Our lab tests each spray against a range of tough soils including baked-on grease, starchy spills like rice water, and stubborn stains like curry sauce, which can discolour surfaces.
The soils are applied to tiles and left for 24 hours. We then apply the cleaning spray and use an automated scrubbing machine to mimic the cleaning process. After a set number of cleaning strokes, we assess how well the tile has been cleaned. We repeat this test four times for each soil type and record the average rating.
Brands regularly reformulate their products, so we test them annually.
We buy all the kitchen sprays we test.
What is its environmental impact?
We now examine the eco-credentials of each kitchen spray we test, so that you can make an informed buying decision.
We look into the ingredients used and what their environmental impact is, including whether they are biodegradable, harmful to aquatic life or persistent (whether they are likely to accumulate and linger in waterways). We also consider how transparent manufacturers are about the ingredients they use.
We also take into account how easy the packaging is to recycle and how much information about recyclability is given on the packaging. We also check whether the packaging itself is made from recycled materials and/or whether it's refillable, as well as packaging utilisation (whether the packaging is under-filled).
Best Buys, Eco Buys and Great Value
To become a Which? recommended Best Buy, kitchen sprays must score a minimum of 75%.
To become an Eco Buy, a kitchen cleaner must score a minimum of 65% and five stars for sustainability.
Great Value products are a selection of the cheapest products per 100ml that score 75% or above. Which? recommends these as a good choice for those who want to spend less, without sacrificing too much in the way of performance.
Buying sustainably isn't easy. It's difficult to find products that really make a difference and what's just greenwashing. Find out how choosing a Which? Eco Buy can help.
