This year's bathroom trends include stylish yet practical fittings, mood-boosting lighting, spa-like features, and even a nod towards that 1970s classic – the avocado suite.

1. Chrome fittings

Over the past few years, brass, copper, gold and matt black have been particularly popular for bathroom fittings, while chrome has taken something of a back seat.

But they're roaring back into style like a Harley-Davidson dripping with chrome-plated parts. This return is driven by their stylistic and durable properties.

Versatile and uniform, chrome bathroom fittings can be easily matched across a variety of fittings and brands. A further advantage is that good-quality chrome fittings shouldn't tarnish, patina or otherwise age badly.

Adding chrome to your bathroom will give it a timeless, bright elegance that should age well, regardless of the latest popular trends.

2. Spa bathroom

Bringing elements of a luxury spa into your bathroom will continue to be important in 2025, after the success of 2024's 'spathroom' trend. This means creating a space for relaxation and pampering.

Additions such as steam showers, infrared saunas, cold plunge tubs, towel heaters, massaging shower heads, soaker tubs and heated floors can all create a spa-like atmosphere.

A luxury spa-style bathroom may even include speakers for surround sound and smart lighting to boost the ambience.

Lighter – and much less expensive – touches include the addition of houseplants and soft, fluffy towels.

3. Avocado bathrooms

Although you might associate avocado bathrooms with the 1970s, they're returning as a top trend for 2025. But don't be alarmed — avocado shades are added for a splash of vibrancy rather than as a block colour for the whole bathroom suite.

This is a progression from 2024's trend for earthy colours, such as terracotta and varying shades of brown from dark walnut to taupe.

Once you’ve decided on a shade of green, you can layer in accent pieces such as a woven bathroom rug, towels in cream or beige (perhaps even Pantone's colour of the year, Mocha Mousse) and a few houseplants.

Combine this with natural materials, like marble, wood, ceramic and clay, to bring a hint of nature into the room.

4. Eco-friendly features

Bathroom products that help save water and energy are great for both the planet and your utility bills. An eco shower head is easy to fit – and to it can help save water and energy.

Try fitting a toilet and basin combination unit, which recycles the water you use to wash and uses it to flush the toilet – saving you both space and water.

Water recycling showers work similarly by collecting water in the drain, hygienically treating it, maintaining the desired temperature, and then circulating it back out through the shower.

Sourcing second-hand or vintage additions – such as mirrors, freestanding bath tubs or vanity units – is another way to be more sustainable when revamping your bathroom since the process of manufacturing new products has an environmental impact.

5. Smart and biodynamic lighting

Lighting in your bathroom can not only be used to enhance aesthetics, it can also boost your mood, making it a trend that's worth getting on board with.

Smart controls allow you to switch easily from task lighting to mood lighting while also maximising efficiency to save money and energy.

You could also opt for biodynamic lighting. Our natural circadian rhythms react to changes in lighting levels throughout the day, and biodynamic lighting aims to mimic this, controlling the direction, brightness and temperature of your bathroom lights.

The aim is to boost alertness, enhance sleep patterns and impact your mood as natural lighting would.
