1. Green kitchens
Different shades of green were among the most popular kitchen colour choices in 2024, and this will continue into 2025 – but with a twist. The deep moody greens and other statement colours of 2024 have morphed into a softer colour palette.
'Muted tones, especially shades of green, are hugely popular,' says Jen Nash, head of design at Magnet. 'We’re seeing these shades paired with accents like brushed brass hardware or neutrals like limestone for a timeless feel.'
Jodie Spray, kitchen buyer at B&Q, concurred: 'This trend is linked to the rise in wellness and sustainability awareness among consumers, who are looking to nature to create calm and tranquil spaces in their homes.
'Reed green will be a popular tone in kitchens this year, supported by a softer sage green or fir green for a deeper and more elegant look.'
If you want to introduce these shades without committing to a fully green space, bolder wall and cabinet colours can be balanced by lighter worktops or a more neutral kitchen island.

2. Lighting layers
'When it comes to lighting in kitchens, customers are increasingly prioritising mood-setting features', says Magnet's Jen Nash.
Having a variety of lighting options for your kitchen means you can both increase functionality and create the perfect ambience.
To create the perfect 'lighting layers', consider both mood and task lighting.
'Pendant lights over islands, under-cabinet LEDs for tasks, and dimmable fixtures are proving to be increasingly popular in lighting accessories', says Jen. 'And this trend is set to keep growing.'
You can also opt for statement lights to create a beautiful focal point, which makes for an easy kitchen upgrade.

3. Statement worktops in natural materials
Worktops have a huge impact on the functionality and durability of your kitchen. Natural materials such as quartz, or synthetics designed to imitate natural materials (like Corian), will last for years and are easy to keep clean.
Don't be afraid to opt for a bolder design to show off the material you have chosen: 'A key trend for 2025 will be countertops extending into large splashbacks', says Paul Bangs, category director for Kitchens at Wickes.
'This creates a cohesive look that highlights bold veining and textures of the material.'
Jen Nash concurs: 'People are embracing bold surfaces to add character to their kitchens. Marble decor across stone worktops with intricate veining has seen a 25% year-on-year rise in volume sales at Magnet.'

4. Layering textures
'Layering textures is a huge trend in kitchens that started in 2024 and will remain for the foreseeable future', says B&Q's Jodie Spray.
Adding multiple textures in similar or natural colours can create a luxurious and calming feel in your kitchen.
Or you can go bold: 'The trend now moves towards full layering and a clashing of pairs', says Jodie. 'Gone are the days of looking brand new – consumers are looking to layer to create life and history in the home.'
If you don't want to opt for a full remodel, consider adding statement handles, lampshades or refreshing your splashback to introduce new textures.

5. Sustainable materials
Kitchen trends for 2025 aren't just aesthetic, there's a continued movement towards using more sustainable materials.
'We’re increasingly seeing people ask about the environmental impact of their kitchens', says Jen Nash at Magnet. 'Sales of cabinetry made from recycled materials and eco-friendly finishes have risen year-on-year.'
For a more eco-friendly kitchen upgrade, look out for ethical, sustainable and carbon-neutral goods. Wood is one of the most popular natural raw materials, but make sure it's FSC-certified if you're buying new.
You can also choose a more sustainable kitchen by ensuring your cabinets are of a high-quality and timeless design.
'It’s clear that people are moving away from fast trends and investing in durable designs that won’t need replacement within a few years', says Jen.
Before you do anything, decide whether you need to replace your whole kitchen or could simply change or paint your kitchen cabinet doors? You might also want to think about a second-hand or ex-display kitchen.
