Vote.org Statement on U.S. House Passage of H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act

Washington, D.C. — Vote.org, the largest voter engagement platform in the nation, is doing much more than registering voters; it is also leading the charge to enact pro voter policies at the federal level. In response to members of the United States House passing H.R. 4 the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, Vote.org CEO Andrea Hailey issued the following statement:

“We are thankful to each and every House member who recognizes the urgent need for voting rights legislation at the federal level. With their vote last night, the House signaled their commitment to protecting Americans’ right to vote and ensuring policy that discriminates on the basis of race, age, physical ability, or any other factor cannot be enacted at the state level. Now, the Senate must act to restore the key components of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.”

“Until recently, the Voting Rights Act has been reauthorized five times with strong bipartisan congressional support and the support of Presidents from both parties. It is my sincere hope that President Joe Biden will use the power of his office by encouraging Senators to follow the lead of their counterparts in the House, ensuring all eligible voters are able participate in the electoral process without interference.”

“The Senate must find a way to stand with the American people against voter suppression efforts, and prove they will not stand idly by as fabricated and/or illegal barriers to voting are advanced by undemocratic forces.”
