Vote.org Kicks Off National Campaign Challenging U.S. Businesses to Give Employees Paid Time Off to Vote

Last updated on August 27, 2024

WASHINGTON –Today Vote.org, the largest nonpartisan voter registration and get-out-the-vote platform in America, re-launched its ElectionDay.org program, challenging companies across the country to guarantee paid time off for their employees to vote on or before Election Day.

ElectionDay.org is designed to increase voter-friendly workplaces by enlisting organizations of all sizes to provide their employees with paid time off to vote. In past elections, as many as 35% of non-voters cited scheduling conflicts, including work, as the primary factor keeping them from the polls.

“Corporate America answered the call to give their employees paid time off to vote in recent election cycles, with an estimated 1.8 million employees benefiting from the pro-voting policies of our ElectionDay.org initiative. Now, with only weeks until another critical election, voters are counting on their employers to step off the sidelines once again – and companies must not shy away from their nonpartisan responsibility to help expand ballot access,” said Andrea Hailey, CEO of Vote.org. “Work-related barriers should never prevent someone from making their voice heard at the polls. By joining ElectionDay.org, companies can stand for the rights of their employees while proudly demonstrating their commitment to our democracy. It’s also important to recognize that a thriving business environment goes hand-in-hand with a healthy democracy, which is all the more reason for companies to take steps to actively promote voting this election season.”

Hims & Hers, Kayak, Linktree, OpenTable, Pinterest, Snap Inc., and United Talent Agency (UTA) are among the companies that have already joined ElectionDay.org this year. Participants in this critical pro-voter initiative pledge to provide their employees with paid time off to vote and receive access to Vote.org’s convenient online registration tools and additional materials to promote civic engagement at their companies.

“Snapchat was designed to help people express themselves, and we’ve always believed that civic engagement is one of the most powerful forms of self-expression,” said Jennifer Stout, VP of Global Public Policy at Snap Inc. “This election season we are providing Snapchatters with non-partisan tools and information, as well as providing our team members the time they need to vote.”

"We believe that democracy thrives when everyone participates,” said Rosanna Biggs, Senior Vice President of People & Legal at Linktree. “By giving our employees time off to vote, we're not only encouraging civic responsibility but also reinforcing our commitment to a fair and just society. Voting is a fundamental right, and we want to ensure that our team members have the opportunity to make their voices heard without the pressure of work obligations."

“Every person who wants to exercise their right to vote should have the opportunity to do so,” said Khobi Brooklyn, Chief Communications and Policy Officer at Hims&Hers. “At Hims & Hers we've always prioritized breaking down the barriers to the access our customers need for their health and wellness, and ensuring our employees have the ability to cast their vote in this election is no different."

Vote.org’s strategic partnerships with businesses are a core pillar of the organization’s work to meet voters where they are with convenient, nonpartisan, user-friendly registration tools. Vote.org has already registered nearly one million voters during the 2024 cycle.
