How to set up multi-room viewing for Virgin TV

Now that you’ve discovered all the wonderful multiroom capabilities our Virgin TV 360 box has to offer, you’re probably wondering how we go about setting this up. Wonder no longer.

With extra Mini boxes, you can enjoy all the channels you have as part of your Virgin TV subscription. You can watch all the same channels, apps and On Demand shows that you watch on your Main box in every room you have a Mini box. Plus, they're 4K-ready for Ultra HD TV.

The Virgin TV 360 set up is the same as for any of our ordinary hubs, - except that you will receive an SMS with the word ‘GO’. You'll need to reply to this to activate the service fully.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 x Co-axial cable

  • 1 x Digital TV remote

  • 1 x Digital TV set top box

  • 1 x Power cable

  • 1 x HDMI cable

First, take the co-axial cable and find the red end. Then connect this to the right side port of your Virgin Media wall outlet. The port has a screw on threaded head. Simply push the cable head over the screw head.

Next, take the blue end of the co-axial cable and insert that into the co-ax port on the back of your Virgin TV box.

To connect to the TV, take one end of the HDMI cable and connect it to the set top box. The other end should go into the HDMI port on your TV set.

Now it’s time to connect it to the power source. Plug the power cable into a nearby electrical socket. The other end of the power cable should go into the TV box.

Important: Make sure that the A/C power button is switched to on, on the back of the box.

Switch on your TV and digital box. Make sure that it’s set to the correct AV channel. This is usually HDMI 1 or 2.

Then you’ll see a screen that asks for a TV activation code.

Your box will then do a signal strength scan automatically, and a channel search. Once that is complete, select ok on the remote. Now you’re ready to use Multiroom on your tv box!

How to watch recordings on another virgin tv box

The easiest way to set up multi room viewing is with the Virgin TV 360 Mini box. Simply set up a 360 Mini box in each of the rooms you'd like to have Virgin TV.

Connect the Virgin TV 360 box to your home network and you’ll be ready to watch recordings on any other Virgin TV box that’s connected to the same network.

Just make sure the standby setting on the Virgin TV 360 box is set to either Fast Start or Active Start, otherwise additional TV boxes in your home won’t be able to connect.

For more information, do the following:

  1. Press the Home button on the remote

  2. Select System

  3. Select Standby power consumption

If you want to know how to connect two tivo boxes together to watch your recordings on another Virgin TV box, you simply need to connect the box to your home network using an Ethernet cable. Just plug one end of the cable to the Ethernet socket on the back of the TiVo box and the other to a spare port on the back of the Hub and you're ready to go.

Cable won't reach? Try using a Powerline kit. A Powerline can help you extend your wired network, which is useful if the TiVo box is in a different room to the Hub.

Troubleshooting box to box streaming

If you can’t find your recorded shows, try the following:

  • Make sure both Virgin TV V6 or TiVo boxes are connected to the Hub using either an Ethernet cable or a Powerline kit.

  • If you’ve just connected the Virgin TV V6 or TiVo boxes together, try waiting a few minutes for your shows to load.

  • If you’ve just added a new Virgin TV V6 or TiVo to your account, you may need to wait up to 72 hours for the box to appear on your account.

Check the following:

  • The Ethernet cable is correctly inserted into the TiVo or V6 box and the Hub.

  • The Hub is turned on and working OK.

  • The Virgin TV V6 or TiVo boxes are turned on and working OK.

If you’re still having issues, check to make sure there aren’t any disruptions to service in your area. Check my area.

Trying to stream a show but it’s not working? You’ll see a Stop icon beneath its description with relevant information:

  • You recorded the show from a channel that is no longer available through Virgin Media.

  • You no longer subscribe to the channel the show was broadcast on.

  • The channel you’re trying to watch doesn’t support room to room streaming – usually because the channel provider has restricted how content can be watched as part of their agreement with us.

  • The show you're trying to watch started recording within the last 45 seconds – wait 2 minutes and try again.

If you have received an error message saying "Error W17. Problem Playing Video", this is usually due to problems with your network. This could be for one of the following reasons:

  • One of your cables might have become disconnected – check all your cables are secure.

  • If you’re using Powerline kits and your home’s electrical wiring is old or poor quality, it might not support the speeds needed.

  • You might be doing too many other things that can slow your network speed (i.e. video or music downloads, online gaming or other streaming). Check using the broadband speed checker.
