Young people’s moods directly affected by social media ‘likes’
For the first time, a team of researchers led by the University of Amsterdam has used real social media data to show that young people may indeed be more sensitive to social media feedback (likes) than adults, and that this directly impacts their engagement and their mood.
'The choice for the UvA was really a choice for Amsterdam. Coming from a 'village' (Wassenaar), the big city was very exciting: real life. Your mind opens up. You learn to think academically, and you get to do that all day long.'
Assistent professor, Joachim Goedhart and his colleagues are designing pieces of DNA code to introduce into cells, which causes the cells produce fluorescent dyes. Using this method, cell biologists can essentially tag parts of cells or substances within them for research into cancer, viral infections and more.
The UvA belongs to Europe’s top universities. With over 40,000 students,
6,000 staff members and 3,000 PhDs we are a hub of academic research and
education.
