This advice and guidance inform our scientific research, key initiatives and safety solutions.
Council members are volunteers who are passionate about public safety. Council membership is comprised of distinguished experts from a wide range of government agencies, consumer groups, scientific and educational institutions and industry organizations. To be appointed as a member of a Council is recognition of expertise, integrity and a commitment to furthering public safety.
Electrical Council
Formed in 1913, the Electrical Council advises us on opportunities to support and further safety with the electrical authority and inspection community. Membership includes authorities having jurisdiction, independent experts, federal government officials and insurance representatives.
Fire Council
For more than 100 years, the Fire Council has advised us on safety performance requirements for fire suppression equipment, fire resistance, building designs, fire and smoke detector equipment and building materials. Membership includes academic experts, building officials, federal government agencies, fire service members, independent fire safety experts and the insurance industry.
Security Council
Formed in 1921, the Security Council provides a forum to advise us on safety considerations relative to the development, use and application of security and property protection products. Membership includes representatives from the insurance industry, law enforcement, corporate security, federal government and academia.
