Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Services

Pediatric Pulmonary Services

Respiratory viral infections are among the most common causes of illness in children under age 5. These lung infections can also lead to complications, including wheezing, respiratory distress, pneumonia — and even a predisposition to develop asthma.

That’s why it’s important to consult a pediatrician who specializes in treating respiratory symptoms and conditions in children.

Our UCI Health pediatric pulmonologists know that children are not small adults, that they have unique medical needs often requiring special expertise to make an accurate diagnosis.

They are board-certified pediatric specialists with extensive experience in the diagnosis, treatment and management of all types of respiratory symptoms and disorders, including asthma, pneumonia and chronic lung disease.

Our pediatric pulmonology team is dedicated to providing exemplary care to children of all ages, from infants to adolescents.

For more information or to schedule a consultation with our pediatric pulmonologist Dr. Dan Cooper, call 888-770-2462. He sees patients at the subspecialty clinic in Orange.

Our UCI Health team is led by Dr. Dan Cooper, who is a board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric pulmonologist with years of experience delivering patient-centered care to Orange County children and their families.

Advanced care

We provide comprehensive pulmonary function testing and exercise/fitness testing. We also use the most advanced technology, including bronchoscopes, to examine the inside of the respiratory tract.

Coordinated care

We emphasize close consultation with family members as well as good communication with the child’s primary care pediatrician.

To ensure that your child receives comprehensive care, we work closely with other specialists as needed, including radiologists, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, neurologists, developmental pediatricians and pediatric cardiologists as needed.

We also collaborate with registered pediatric dietitians, occupational and physical therapists, social workers and case managers.

We believe an important part of caring for a child's health is to help address any needs the child and family may have for additional community resources or services.

Advancing child health

In addition, our pediatric pulmonologists are affiliated with the UCI Health Pediatric Exercise and Genomics Research Center (PERC), which is dedicated to research and physician training in order to improve the health of children, including those with asthma, cystic fibrosis and other serious health challenges.
