The City of Toronto is currently undertaking the Toronto Green Standard (TGS), Net Zero Transition Study (NZTS) to inform future changes to TGS version 5 and version 6 in support of the Citywide transition to net zero emissions, as outlined in the TransformTO Net Zero Strategy. The Study is being conducted in partnership between the City Planning Division and the Environment & Climate Division.
The Toronto Green Standard is Toronto’s sustainable design and performance requirements for new private and city-owned developments since 2010. Version 4 came into effect May 1, 2022 for new planning applications. The Standard consists of tiers of performance with Tier 1 being mandatory and applied through the planning approval process.
Financial incentives are offered through the Development Charge Refund Program for eligible and verified Tier 2, 3 or 4, high performance, low emissions projects.
