Project Description
This project includes the removal of the existing bridge and construction of a new precast arch tunnel. Final ROW plans have been developed at this time. Additional project details include:
- This project will replace an existing 7-span concrete continuous and tee beam bridge over an active CSX rail line with an 84’ precast arch utilizing strip footers;
- The bridge is on a 14-degree skew;
- The grade is being raised for additional 3 feet of clearance;
- The project may be a good candidate for CM/GC delivery;
- An estimated three to four month closure of SR-10 is anticipated at this time.
Major Challenges & Issues
The success of this project is directly related to it's constructability and controlling costs. There is areas of possible innovation in the retaining walls and how/when they can be constructed. Specific challenges include:
- Tight right-of-way on both sides with 35-40 foot retaining walls;
- Project proximity to existing buildings;
- Construction activities near and coordination with the railroad;
- The railroad wants the ability to add extra track;
- Constraints with site access;
- 15-20 trains per day with no “train schedule” to reference.
