Interstate 40: Bridges over Buffalo River and Squeeze Bottom Lane

Humphreys I-40 Bridges

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is constructing improvements to Interstate 40 in Humphreys County. The improvements include resurfacing work on I-40 and replacement of the bridges over the Buffalo River and Squeeze Bottom Lane.

Current Status: Phase 1 construction, which includes resurfacing of I-40 from east of the Buffalo River bridge to just west of the Squeeze Bottom Lane bridge, is currently underway in preparation for implementation of traffic shifts.

Traffic Impacts

11/11/2024 - 11/12/2024, 7 p.m. - 5 a.m., There will be westbound lane closures for channelization striping at the construction entrances and exits.

11/13/2024, 7 p.m. - 5 a.m., There will be eastbound lane closures for channelization striping at the construction entrances and exits.

History and Background

The 1.96-mile project on Interstate 40 in Humphreys County, from near Exit 137 to near Exit 143, consists of widening the roadway and replacing two bridges. The planned improvements are designed to replace the two bridges and improve future capacity of I-40.
