Engagement
What is Engagement?
Homed within the Commissioner’s Office, the Tennessee Department of Education’s (the department) engagement team helps ensure clear lines of communication and collaboration between the department with a diverse mix of education stakeholders across the state. Our goal is to ensure a cohesive strategy for stakeholder engagement and to empower individuals and organizations to become champions for both the implementation of key initiatives and programs and advancing student outcomes. The engagement team focuses on internal and external engagement priorities.
Internally
The engagement team focuses on strengthening and supporting our internal staff, our program teams, and our agency as a whole. Team and agency wide engagement opportunities are coordinated to facilitate collaboration, team building and networking.
Through multiple internal programs learning opportunities, professional development opportunities and continued career support are available to staff. Through continued feedback, the department takes direction from our internal staff to drive coherence.
Externally
The engagement team facilitates the department’s Engagement Councils. Through these engagement councils, the department facilitates opportunities for stakeholders to provide input and engage with the department to move our state and students forward.
Each council meets to discuss progress, make recommendations, and provide feedback on the implementation of Best for All and department initiatives, as well as other topics. In addition to ongoing council meetings, our engagement team works very closely with our communications team on special events and initiatives as well.
