Cycling at its most popular in 24 years

The number of bicycle journeys in the UK has reached a 24-year high as people abandon buses and motorbikes in favour of pedal power.

Cyclists rode 3.25 billion miles last year, up by almost 4 per cent in 12 months and the highest rate in Britain since 1990, according to the Department for Transport.

At the same time, figures showed a long-term decline in bus or coach traffic and the number of miles travelled by motorcycle, which have been overtaken by cycle miles.
