LIMESCALE is a little-league supergroup of free improvisers. THF Drenching, who does dadaist things with a Dictaphone, and one Sonic Pleasure, who is credited with "bricks", travelled south from Manchester last year to play with three London-scene regulars: the clarinettist Alex Ward, the saxophonist Tony Bevan and the guitarist Derek Bailey. Limescale offers more in the way of plain and simple fun than such encounters usually do. True to its title, it sounds like it was recorded in a boiling kettle full of fluttering mineral fragments, as its five constituent parts swirl around each other at random, occasionally knocking heads.
