I asked my BMW dealer to fit a new pair of wheels (at £1,000 each) with three different sets of locking-nuts. They informed me that they had 12 sets of locking-nuts in stock but despite there being 50 different lock shapes, all of theirs were the same shape — identical to the original ones on my car. I called 10 more BMW dealers to discover they all had several sets of the same type of nut, with occasionally one other shape. It became clear that any thief could help himself to a good proportion of BMW wheels with one readily available key. I fitted a set of AC Schnitzer wheel nuts in their place and had no further problems.
