Alastair Campbell, the Prime Minister’s Downing Street communications chief, will give evidence next week to the inquiry investigating the death of the weapons expert David Kelly, it was announced today.
Mr Campbell will appear before the inquiry on Tuesday. He is expected to face questions about the BBC report that claimed he embellished last September’s dossier on Iraqi weapons to make the case for war more compelling.
Tom Kelly, one of two official spokesmen for the Prime Minister, is also due to appear next week. He apologised earlier this month for off-the-record remarks to a journalist in which he attempted to describe Dr Kelly as a “Walter Mitty” style fantasist.
