Golfers protest as cows get rub of the green

THE rules of golf specify that animal dung is a loose impediment which may be moved without penalty. But have you ever tried shifting a fresh cowpat off a green?

And the droppings are not the end of it. Frank Joynson’s herd of 19 cows is being accused by members of Penn Golf Club near Wolverhampton of obstructing play, stampeding women players, churning up manicured greens with hoofprints, and even ripping out and chewing marker flags.

One member has filmed cows destroying the 13th green. Another said that she and her partners had been walking between the sixth and eighth holes when all 19 cows came galloping at them; they had to summon assistance and fend the intruders off with their golf trolleys.
