Away fans banned from Ajax Feyenoord games

Ajax and Feyenoord have banned each another’s away fans from attending matches between the teams for the next five seasons following ongoing violence and abusive chants.

The decision was announced at the headquarters of the Dutch Football Association after talks between the clubs and the mayors of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, home of Ajax and Feyenoord respectively. It means only home fans will be allowed to attend matches between the teams.

On Sunday, Amsterdam police arrested 30 fans for throwing bottles before Ajax beat Feyenoord 2-0 in the league.

“It might seem extreme, but we warned fans beforehand we’d had enough,” Job Cohen, the mayor of Amsterdam, said.
