As a ‘not for profit’ research centre, Thatcham Research is funded primarily by its Members from the insurance industry, who contribute a percentage of their motor premium income towards our work.

Our world-class facilities include:

Repair Technology Centre Our vehicle research hub, with world class workshop facilities enabling in-depth insights into new vehicles. The Repair Technology Centre is home to specialists in repair and security research, repair method development, and vehicle-led research.

Crash and Safety Test Laboratory A long-standing feature of the Thatcham Research facility portfolio, the Safety Laboratory is critical to our research capability. Specialising in sled and barrier testing, the laboratory was accredited by Euro NCAP for crash testing in 2012.

Thatcham Research, Gamston Labs Opened in late 2022, our Gamston Research Centre specialises in real-world testing of emerging assisted and automated technologies and boasts a full suite of active safety and ADAS assessment.

Automotive Academy Thatcham Research’s Automotive Academy is uniquely positioned to provide training and continuous professional development for apprentices at the start of their career, and for technicians and engineers looking to update their skills, from ages 16 to 65+.
