Houston, the 4th largest city in the United States, one of the most prosperous nations in the world, faces a startling reality—13.8% of the Harris County population experiences food insecurity at some point during the year. Target Hunger, one of the city’s largest non-profit organizations, is committed to addressing this urgent issue and its underlying causes. Through our Food Assistance and Navigation Programs, we support low-income families by meeting their immediate need for food while also helping them break the cycle of poverty that leads to chronic hunger. In 2023, Target Hunger provided food to over 21,500 individuals, serving nearly 8,400 households.
How We Help.
Target Hunger is committed to helping Houstonians. Since 1989, Target Hunger has been on the front lines of hunger every day with its 3-pronged approach to fighting food insecurity in Houston.
We provide direct food assistance to food insecure children, families, and seniors who face the risk of going hungry every day through our brick-and-mortar and mobile pantries, home delivery, Food Fairs, a Community Partner Program, emergency food services, and two gardens.
To address the root causes of hunger and help clients thrive, Target Hunger offers a Navigation Program that assists individuals in overcoming personal challenges. Our Client Service staff, all Community Health Workers, serve as a liaison by connecting individuals to community resources.
Disaster Distributions
We are here to help families that face crises whether for personal reasons or in the aftermath of natural disasters. Target Hunger staff mobilize to meet the needs of the community through disaster distributions and expanded Navigation services.

Whether you sort and pack food at our warehouse, weed and plant produce at one of our community gardens, help distribute fresh produce at our food fairs, or assist at our Mobile Pantry, your time and effort will directly impact families in need.
